General Information

Since 1973 the European Geophysical Society (EGS) and since 19.. the European Union of Geosciences (EUG) have presented a number of Awards and Medals to distinguished scientists in the field of geo- and space sciences as well as to individuals for their exceptional service for these associations. In addition, the EGS made several awards to assist, first of all, the younger and more recently established scientists to attend its annual General Assemblies.

When the Councils of the European Geophysical Society (EGS) and the European Union of Geosciences (EUG) established the European Geosciences Union (EGU) on 7 September 2002, all councils involved agreed that the EGU will recognize all awards and medals previously made by the EGS or the EUG, and that the EGU will continue the award and medal scheme of the two associations.

Benefits

Except for the travel and support awardees, all medalists and awardees will receive a fine, glass-framed document with their name and a short résumé concerning their achievement, free registration for the meeting and free accommodation for one night, and an invitation to the Award Dinner.

In addition the Division medalists will receive a fine, hand-made bronze medal manufactured by the Hungarian sculptor József Kótai.

Colleagues receiving a Young Scientists' Travel Award or a Keith Runcorn Travel Award will receive free registration and a financial support of max. 300,- EUR or 500,- US Dollars, respectively, in order to assist their travel to the General Assembly.
