The 2012 Outstanding Student Poster (OSP) Award is awarded to Tonya S. DelSontro for the poster/PICO entitled:

Methane ebullition and fate in the Rhone River delta (Lake Geneva) and its subaquatic canyons (DelSontro, T.; Sollberger, S.; Corella, J. P.; Wehrli, B.; Girardclos, S.; Anselmetti, F. S.; Senn, D. B.)

Tonya DelSontro received her Ph.D. from ETH Zurich, Switzerland in fall of 2012, under the supervision of Bernhard Wehrli. The focus of her dissertation was on the quantification of methane emissions from hydroelectric reservoirs using various technologies. She is currently a post-doctoral researcher at Eawag (Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology) in Kastanienbaum, Switzerland where she is working on the methane dynamics, particularly ebullition (bubbling), in the Rhone River delta of Lake Geneva. Summer 2011 was spent conducting surface operations with an echosounder, as well as sediment coring from the Russian MIR submersibles that were used for the elemo project (http://www.elemo.ch) taking place on the lake. Her poster for the 2011 EGU General Assembly summarized the methodology of using hydroacoustics for the detection and quantification of ebullition emissions, as well as the preliminary findings from the Rhone River delta, which is an interesting system consisting of subaquatic canyons.
