Description

The Glaciology Masters provides skills that are ideally suited to further research or careers in environmental consultancies and institutions such as the British Geological Society and the Environment Agency. To this end students gain direct experience of a wide range of techniques including: programming and operating automated data loggers, weather stations and environmental sensors; laboratory-based experimentation; gauging the discharge and chemical composition of glacial streams; manipulating and applying computer-based numerical models; interpreting glaciological features from remotely-sensed images; interpreting sediment/landform associations in glaciated areas, and analysing and interpreting the sedimentology of glacigenic sediments. Students also benefit from direct exposure to real glaciers early on in the Masters through a week-long field trip to the European Alps.
