EPRI and Air & Waste Management Association's Workshop on Future Air Quality Model Development Needs
Date: 9 June 2011
The EPRI and Air & Waste Management Association's Workshop on "Future Air Quality Model Development Needs" will take place on 12-13 September 2011, in Washington DC, USA
The EPRI and Air & WMA workshop is designed to bring together leading researchers from academia, government, and private institutions, industry, and other stakeholders to brainstorm on various model development needs and develop a comprehensive research agenda that can be used by the community to help guide research plans and to promote collaboration amongst researchers.
The focus of this initial two-day workshop is limited to the use of atmospheric models to support regional-scale air quality applications, such as forecasting or control strategy development.
Tyndall’s work provided for the first time a solid scientific basis for the understanding of the natural greenhouse effect, whereby the Earth’s surface temperature is maintained at a value considerably higher than it would be in the absence of these heat-trapping gases. It also showed the basic mechanism for the enhanced greenhouse effect that results when the concentrations of the longer-lived absorbing gases are increased above their naturally occurring values.
Objectives:
- Identify Research Gaps in Air-Quality Process Representations
- Develop a Research Agenda for Future Model Development
Discussion Topics:
- Homogeneous-Phase Chemistry
- Heterogeneous-Phase Chemistry (including Inorganic and Organic Aqueous-Phase Chemistry)
- Organic Particulate Matter: Formation and Aging of Secondary Organic Aerosol
- Meteorological Processes Affecting Air Quality
