Ulf Riebesell awarded 2011 Vladimir Vernadsky Medal

The Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky Medal is awarded to Ulf Riebesell (IFM-GEOMAR, Kiel, Germany) for his important contributions to biogeosciences, in particular to biological oceanography and marine biogeochemistry.

The Medal Ceremony and the Medal Lecture will be hosted by the session BG3.1 “Ocean acidification and its impact on marine ecosystems in the context of climate change during the 2011 EGU General Assembly in Vienna, at the Austria Vienna Center.

Gerold Wefer awarded 2011 Alfred Wegener Medal

The Alfred Wegener Medal and honorary membership is awarded to Gerold Wefer (MARUM, Bremen, Germany) for his pioneering contributions on the applicability of stable isotopes in marine calcareous organisms to reconstruction of the ocean history down to the seasonal scale and his exceptional devotion in serving the marine community.

Woodward Fischer from the California Institute of Technology, USA received the 2011 BG Outstanding Young Scientist Award.

The EGU Medals and Awards Ceremony for all Division Outstanding Young Scientist Awardees will be held on Wednesday, 6 April 2011, at 17:30 in Room D.

2010 Young Scientist Outstanding Poster Presentation Award

Daan Blok from the Wageningen University in The Netherlands received the 2010 YSOPP award for his poster presented at the 2010 EGU General Assembly, entitled “Climate change effects on vegetation in Northeastern Siberian tundra – Shrub growth response to local climate & effects of shrub expansion on permafrost thaw”.
