Division on Geomorphology (GM)
President: Andreas Lang, lang@liv.ac.uk
Andreas Lang elected Geomorphology Division President 2011-2013
Many congratulations to Andreas Lang for being elected Division President for the biennium April 2011-April 2013. Andreas holds a chair in Geography at the University of Liverpool. His interests are in Human-Environment interactions on long time scales, Geochronology, Geomorphic Systems, and Soil Erosion. As well as being a recent president of the British Society for Geomorphology, Andreas has coordinated the Young Scientist Poster Awards for the EGU Geomorphology Division. His term as President of the Geomorphology Division of the EGU will start at the end of the 2011 General Assembly in Vienna.
Stuart Lane awarded 2011 Bagnold Medal
Stuart Lane has been awarded the 2011 Bagnold Medal of the Geomorphology Division of the EGU for his critical contributions to our understanding of the basic processes in rivers affecting river flow, sediment transport and river ecology through the combination of detailed field work, advanced data collection techniques and critical theoretical insights as well as for his leadership in communicating geomorphological expertise to practicioners in landscape management and planning.
Simon Mudd is 2011 Penck Lecturer
The 2011 Walther Penck lecture at the EGU General Assembly will be given by Simon Mudd. The Penck lecture is a full length presentation by an outstanding young geomorphologist under the age of 35 years and 29 days (the life span of Walther Penck) at the time of the lecture. Simon's interests include arid region hydrology, hillslope geomorphology, sediment transport processes, chemical weathering within soils, soil development, landsliding, landscape response to transient tectonic and climatic forcing, and interactions between plants and geomorphology.
And, with all that he is still looking for an excuse to go to Greece.
Bill Dietrich awarded 2011 Arthur Holmes Medal
Many congratulations to Bill Dietrich for being awarded the 2011 Arthur Holmes Medal of the European Geosciences Union for his exceptional contributions to progress in understanding of Earth Surface Processes.
This is the first time that the Holmes Medal has been awarded for work in this field.
