Summer school on Environmental Fluid Mechanics
In June 2012 Eawag organizes the next Environmental Fluid Mechanics (EFM) Summer School (see attachment) at Eawag, Switzerland. The specific EFM course, initiated in 1999 by Gerhard Jirka, and hold five times since, is designed for MSc and PhD students, engineers and scientists. This edition will put emphasis on EFM applications to environmental issues.

Call for applications - Master program "Management of Hydrometeorological Hazards - Hydrohasards"
The Department of Civil Engineering (DCE) of the University of Thessaly calls for applications of postgraduate students for the academic year 2011 – 2012 in the Greek-French Postgraduate Studies Program (Master) HYDROHASARDS (Management of Hydrometeorological Hazards). This Program leads to the acquisition of a Master’s Degree (MSc) in the management of hydrometeorological hazards. The Postgraduate Studies Program lasts 18 months and has no fees. The courses of the second semester are held in Volos, while those of the first semester in the University Joseph Fourier-Grenoble (travel and accommodation in France is partly covered by ERASMUS grants). The third semester (practicum and thesis preparation) can be done in the two partner institutions or companies or organizations or collaborating research laboratories in Europe and other countries. Teaching and examinations are held in English and basic bibliography is in English. See flyer and further information.
Summer Course Inverse Modelling for Improving Hydrological, Environmental and Ecological Models
From June, 26th until July, 1st the University of Amsterdam (the Netherlands) will organize a summer course on Inverse Modelling in Amsterdam. The lecturers are: Jasper A Vrugt, Sander Huisman, Jurriaan Spaaks, and Willem Bouten. Further information can be found here.
1st IAHR-WMO Short course on Stream gauging
From September, 6th until September, 9th the University of Brescia (Italy) will organize a 4-day short course on stream gauging in Brescia. Further information can be found here. (Attention: this course will be partly in Italian)
New Master on Water Resources Management and Policy under Water Scarcity Conditions
The MSc is a brand new programme that deals with a very important and sensitive topic: Water Resources Management under Scarcity Conditions. From this point of view it is a unique program as the whole structure and the courses offered are about various water issues but always adapted to scarcity conditions.
This programme aims to promote an international MSc on Water Resources Management and Policy under Water Scarcity Conditions and has been awarded the Label of Mediterranean Office for Youth. The MSc will introduce students to the foundations of Water Management in semi-arid environments from many different points of view. The topics will range from hydrology and land-use impacts under water scarcity conditions to hydrologic modelling and water quality assessments in arid environments under climate change, while also considering political, economic, social and financial factors. The programme also promotes student mobility (courses will be taught in different countries) and sharing of experiences with students from other countries in order to strengthen the knowledge and communication of professionals in the field of Water Management and Policy primarily around the Mediterranean region.
Many consider water the most important natural resource in the world so graduates from this MSC will have great potential job opportunities. Numerous local and international organizations, enterprises, public services and authorities related with water issues, would be interested in graduates that have specialized in the topics offered by this programme. Particularly graduates from this programme would be specialized to work in the unique environmental of the Mediterranean region that is semi-arid and arid with many transboundary issues.
The MSc programme will be hosted by three Universities; the University of Palermo Department Of Civil Environmental and Aerospace Engineering, the University of Kavala Institute of Technology (UKIT) Department of Forestry and Natural Environment Management and the University of Damanhour, Department of Geography, Damanhour City, El Beheira Governorate.
Classes will start this September, 2011. Potential students can send their application until June 10th, 2011. Applicants accepted will be notified by July, 2011.

How to write a paper - 3 years of lectures
In the last three years HS has organised a very successful short course during EGU, titled "How to write (and publish) a scientific paper in hydrology". The short course has been convened by Stefania Tamea and Francesco Laio.
Here below the slides presented during the three short courses can be downloaded. They allow an interesting comparison among different points of view.
