The Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research e.V. (TROPOS) in Leipzig (Germany) is seeking a PhD Student
to join the research team working on the atmospheric mineral dust life-cycle and mechanism controlling its variability. The post is located in the Modelling Department at TROPOS.
The position is part of the project consortium “Spread of antibiotic resistance in an agrarian landscape” (SOARiAL) lead by the German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures (DSMZ) and funded by the Leibniz Association. It aims at quantifying dust-associated emission of antibiotic-resistant bacteria from agricultural land and assessing the risk of dust-associated transmission of pathogens. The successful candidate will work with the atmosphere-aerosol model system COSMO-MUSCAT. The main task will be to revisit and improve the currently implemented dust emission module regarding the representation of dust emission from arable land.
Subject to funding, the open position is limited to three years. The salary level is according to the German public service regulation (65% TV-L 13). The position will start ideally on 1 March 2017 or soon thereafter.
Applicants will have a University Master degree in atmospheric physics, meteorology, physics or related environmental science disciplines. The candidate will have a strong interest in environmental processes, in particular processes at the interface soil surface – atmosphere, and a strong interest in atmospheric modeling and numerical model development. Fluent English in written and oral form is mandatory.
We are offering the possibility to work in an interdisciplinary team at a highly renowned atmospheric research institute, and in one of the most attractive cities in Germany. Female researchers are especially encouraged to apply. Among candidates of equal aptitude and qualifications, preference will be given to a disabled person.
Please send your application including a letter of motivation, CV, and transcripts until 27 January 2017 to Dr. Kerstin Schepanski, email: firstname.lastname@example.org
