ISSUE 12, DECEMBER 2015 EGU NEWSLETTER Monthly information service for members of the European Geosciences Union Read this email in HTML format at https://www.egu.eu/newsletter/egu/12/email/ ============================================================ HIGHLIGHTS Happy New Year! We would like to start the year by thanking all EGU members who participated in the Autumn 2015 elections (https://egu.eu/67G34O), as well as the candidates. Jonathan Bamber (Professor of Glaciology at the University of Bristol) was elected EGU President/Vice-President for the term 2016–2020, while Håkan Svedhem (Project Scientist for the ExoMars 2016 mission, European Space Agency) was elected as the EGU General Secretary for the term 2016–2018. Both of them will be inaugurated during the EGU plenary meeting at the EGU 2016 General Assembly. For the opportunity to present and discuss your work at Europe’s largest geoscience conference, make sure to submit your abstract by 13 January 2016, 13:00 CET (https://egu.eu/8YB82D). Please note that a fee will be levied for late-abstract submissions this year. ------------------------------------------------------------ IN THIS ISSUE EGU News General Assembly Journal Watch EGU Blogs ------------------------------------------------------------ EGU NEWS * Results of the EGU Autumn 2015 elections (https://egu.eu/67G34O) * News from our publisher Copernicus: Workflow of interactive journals reorganised (https://egu.eu/4LG0KB) * Press Release: Revealing glacier flow with animated satellite (https://egu.eu/5CNMRB) More EGU news items are available on the EGU website at https://www.egu.eu/news/all/. ------------------------------------------------------------ GENERAL ASSEMBLY * The EGU2016 call for papers (https://egu.eu/8YB82D) is open until 13 January 2016 at 13:00 CET * [ECS] Submit your short course (https://egu.eu/60T5YE) ideas by 13 January * Townhall (https://egu.eu/2SFWIH) and splinter (https://egu.eu/5AVLBN) meeting request forms are now available. * Registration for EGU2016 is now open (https://egu.eu/1MDJNF): for special rates, register before 17 March * [ECS] Communicate Your Science Video Competition (https://egu.eu/8UY2DI): winner receives a EGU2017 free registration! ------------------------------------------------------------ JOURNAL WATCH Annales Geophysicae (ANGEO) * Magnetospheric conditions near the equatorial footpoints of proton isotropy boundaries (https://egu.eu/1WC103) Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics (ACP) * Updated ozone absorption cross section will reduce air quality compliance (https://egu.eu/5BTS9Z) * Observations of the spectral dependence of linear particle depolarization ratio of aerosols using NASA Langley airborne High Spectral Resolution Lidar (https://egu.eu/745DSJ) Biogeosciences (BG) * Data-based estimates of the ocean carbon sink variability – first results of the Surface Ocean pCO2 Mapping intercomparison (SOCOM) (https://egu.eu/4W4EQY) * Reviews and syntheses: Effects of permafrost thaw on Arctic aquatic ecosystems (https://egu.eu/41Z2FT) * Biodegradability of dissolved organic carbon in permafrost soils and aquatic systems: a meta-analysis (https://egu.eu/5NE9PQ) * pH up-regulation as a potential mechanism for the cold-water coral Lophelia pertusa to sustain growth in aragonite undersaturated conditions (https://egu.eu/4XY6BS) * Hidden biosphere in an oxygen-deficient Atlantic open-ocean eddy: future implications of ocean deoxygenation on primary production in the eastern tropical North Atlantic (https://egu.eu/6LS6OI) Climate of the Past (CP) * Continental-scale temperature variability in PMIP3 simulations and PAGES 2k regional temperature reconstructions over the past millennium (https://egu.eu/85ZUK9) Earth Surface Dynamics (ESurf) * Grain sorting in the morphological active layer of a braided river physical model (https://egu.eu/84OP1F) Natural Hazards and Earth System Sciences (NHESS) * Comment on "Ultra low frequency (ULF) electromagnetic anomalies associated with large earthquakes in Java Island, Indonesia by using wavelet transform and detrended fluctuation analysis" by Febriani et al.
