ISSUE 28, APRIL 2017 EGU NEWSLETTER Monthly information service for members of the European Geosciences Union Read this email in HTML format at https://www.egu.eu/newsletter/egu/28/email/ ============================================================ HIGHLIGHTS * Last week (23–28 April), the EGU had the pleasure to host 14,500 participants at the EGU 2017 General Assembly in Vienna. This was a record-breaking meeting, with close to 17,500 oral, poster and PICO presentations, and over 1000 sessions and side events. For making the meeting a success, the EGU would like to thank all participants, as well as everyone involved in the organisation of the meeting: conveners, members of the EGU Programme Committee, Copernicus Meetings, conference assistants, and ACV and EGU office staff. A heartfelt thank-you goes to Gerrit de Rooij, the EGU Programme Committee Chair for the past three years, for his brilliant stewardship of the conference. Susanne Buiter, to whom we send a warm welcome, has now replaced Gerrit de Rooij as the chair of the Programme Committee. As a participant, we especially welcome your suggestions and feedback (http://egu2017.eu/feedback), which will be instrumental to ensuring an even more successful General Assembly in 2018 (8–13 April, Vienna). ------------------------------------------------------------ IN THIS ISSUE General Assembly EGU News Journal Watch EGU Blogs ------------------------------------------------------------ GENERAL ASSEMBLY * EGU 2017 General Assembly numbers and thank-you to all participants (https://www.egu2017.eu) * Watch some of the EGU 2017 Union sessions, medal lectures, great debates and press conferences online (http://egu2017.eu/webstreaming.html) * Announcing the winners of this year’s Communicate Your Science Video Competition (https://egu.eu/5BVG09) and EGU Imaggeo Photo Contest (https://egu.eu/4A8C2U) More about the EGU General Assembly at https://www.egu2017.eu. ------------------------------------------------------------ EGU NEWS * EGU 2017 Public Engagement Grants awarded to Martin Archer and Tero Mielonen (https://egu.eu/20H7P9) * Press release: Coral reefs struggle to keep up with rising seas, leave coastal communities at risk (https://egu.eu/4DNPVE) More EGU news items are available on the EGU website at https://www.egu.eu/news/all/. ------------------------------------------------------------ JOURNAL WATCH Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics (ACP) * Constraining N2O emissions since 1940 using firn air isotope measurements in both hemispheres (https://egu.eu/2AP5Z9) * Characterization of the long-term radiosonde temperature biases in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere using COSMIC and Metop-A/GRAS data from 2006 to 2014 (https://egu.eu/0DBK8C) Biogeosciences (BG) * Divergence of seafloor elevation and sea level rise in coral reef ecosystems (https://egu.eu/2AF1Y9) Earth System Dynamics (ESD) * Accounting for the climate–carbon feedback in emission metrics (https://egu.eu/0E4CX5) The Cryosphere (TC) * Process-level model evaluation: a snow and heat transfer metric (https://egu.eu/4QI81B) Other papers highlighted by the editors of EGU's open access journals are available online at https://www.egu.eu/news/journal-watch/. ------------------------------------------------------------ EGU BLOGS GeoLog, the EGU blog * EGU 2017 on the blog: Science is in fashion!
