Antonello Provenzale 

for his exceptional promotion of Nonlinear Processes in Geophysics within the Society as the first Chairman of the corresponding Interdisciplinary Working Group and as one of the founders and editors of the new Society journal devoted to this subject

 
 

Antonello Provenzale received his laurea in physics in 1982 and his doctorate in physics in 1987 from the University of Torino, Italy. From 1983-1986 he was employed at the University of Torino and from 1987 onwards at the CNR, Istituto di Cosmogeofisica. His main fields of interest are nonlinear dynamics, geophysical and astrophysical fluid dynamics and turbulence; he has published more than 60 articles in international journals and books.

Besides being a member of several national and international learned societies, Antonello Provenzale has served as director of various summer schools, coordinator and steering committee member of several EC and ESF research programmes, and as lecturer in astrophysics and atmospheric physics at the University of Torino. Besides, he has been editor of several international journals, including Annals Geophysicae, Surveys in Geophysics, Nonlinear Process' in Geophysics and Il Nuovo Cimento C.
