Job description

The Department of Mathematical Science and Advanced Technology (MAT) at JAMSTEC provides a nurturing environment for the development of technology, specializing in improving the corrosion resistance of turbines. This work falls within the remit of the priority project “Development of acid-resistant and low adhesion technologies for the geothermal power generation system (Project period: FY2018-FY2021)” funded by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). We invite Postdoctoral Researchers. Applicants should be interested in developing numerical models of droplets to optimize turbine drain catcher systems.

The details of the research can be found at:
https://www.jamstec.go.jp/mat/e/

The successful applicant will work on the following specific tasks using particle simulation methods, such as smoothed particle hydrodynamics or the fluid solvers including volume of fluid models (VOF), to represent free surfaces: 1) Numerical simulation of droplets in a steam turbine. 2) Numerical simulation of liquid films deposited on turbine blades. 3) Experimental validation study of the model, in collaboration with other researchers working on the project.

Relevant Research Fields
Computer science, particle simulation, fluid mechanics, software engineering, mechanical engineering, any fields related to computer simulations.

Job Type
Postdoctoral Researcher: To contribute to the project, a Postdoctoral Researcher should be able to independently conduct the research subject which is authorized by the Project under direction of a leader, and to be appointed to improve his/her research qualities.
