Job description

For the second funding phase (2019-2022) of the German climate modelling initiative PalMod (“From the Last Interglacial to the Anthropocene: Modeling a Complete Glacial Cycle”) MARUM at the University of Bremen – under the condition of the grant by the funding party – invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the field of ice-sheet and paleoclimate modeling.

The successful candidate will study the physical processes that led to the inception of the last ice age. Transient climate/ice-sheet simulations will be performed in order to examine the full range of feedback processes that are crucial for the large-scale build-up of ice sheets. Additionally, the candidate will contribute to the continued development of the climate/ice-sheet model and closely collaborate with our co-operation partner Prof. Irina Rogozhina from the Geography Department at NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway).

The position is for a fixed term of 3 years. The earliest starting date is October 1st, 2019. Salary corresponds to 100% TV-L E13.

Requirements:

- Doctoral degree in Physical Oceanography, Meteorology, Glaciology, Geosciences, Physics, Applied Mathematics or a related field.
- Experience in numerical modeling and scientific computation on high-performance computers.
- Experience with the Community Earth System Model (CESM) or the ice-sheet models SICOPOLIS or PISM (or a similar ice-sheet model) would be advantageous.
- Applicants should have a strong interest in paleodata, excellent English language skills and enjoy working in an international and interdisciplinary team.

Applicants should submit under the reference number A168/19 their letter of motivation, a CV including copies of certificates, a publication list, and contact information of two referees.

Documents should be submitted electronically to Dr. Matthias Prange (mprange@marum.de). All applications received prior to August 31st, 2019 will be given full consideration. The call is open until the position is filled.

The University of Bremen is particularly aiming to increase the number of female researchers. Applications from female candidates, international applications and applications of academics with a migration background are explicitly welcome.

In case of equal personal aptitudes and qualification priority will be given to disabled persons.
