ISSUE 27, MARCH 2017 EGU NEWSLETTER Monthly information service for members of the European Geosciences Union Read this email in HTML format at https://www.egu.eu/newsletter/egu/27/email/ ============================================================ HIGHLIGHTS This month saw the publication of the EGU 2017 General Assembly programme (https://egu.eu/26GVRM), which includes about 1000 sessions and over 17,500 abstracts. The conference is less than a month away, and promises to be the largest and most exciting to date. To attend, don’t forget to register online (https://egu.eu/8VR68E), or on-site during the week of the meeting (23–28 April). In other news, this month the EGU has announced that it is supporting March for Science (https://egu.eu/60F3UZ). This global movement will culminate with a march on Earth Day, April 22, 2017, in Washington DC, as well as in many cities around the world, including Vienna. EGU President Hans Thybo said: “While the March for Science idea started in the US, its mission and objectives are global and nonpartisan. A movement that champions science, supports freedom to conduct responsible scientific research, and calls for more evidence-based policy, is one that aligns with EGU’s own objectives.” ------------------------------------------------------------ IN THIS ISSUE General Assembly EGU News Journal Watch EGU Blogs ------------------------------------------------------------ GENERAL ASSEMBLY * Browse the programme for the EGU 2017 General Assembly (https://egu.eu/26GVRM) * Register to attend the meeting (https://egu.eu/8VR68E) * [ECS] Presenting at the General Assembly 2017: A quick ‘how to’ from the EGU (https://egu.eu/389QMB) * [ECS] Making a poster or PICO presentation: top tips from the Outstanding Student Poster and PICO (OSPP) Award judges (https://egu.eu/5P80SG) * [ECS] How to make the most of your time at the General Assembly without breaking the bank (https://egu.eu/8Z3O47) More about the EGU General Assembly at https://www.egu2017.eu. ------------------------------------------------------------ EGU NEWS * EGU endorses March for Science (https://egu.eu/60F3UZ) * Apply to be an EGU division early career scientist representative (https://egu.eu/8KEXTH) More EGU news items are available on the EGU website at https://www.egu.eu/news/all/. ------------------------------------------------------------ JOURNAL WATCH Atmospheric Measurement Techniques (AMT) * Structural uncertainty in air mass factor calculation for NO2 and HCHO satellite retrievals (https://egu.eu/4QKGTF) Biogeosciences (BG) * Manganese in the west Atlantic Ocean in the context of the first global ocean circulation model of manganese (https://egu.eu/6G8KJY) Earth System Dynamics (ESD) * Drought and flood in the Anthropocene: feedback mechanisms in reservoir operation (https://egu.eu/9RXEHV) Hydrology and Earth System Sciences (HESS) * The European 2015 drought from a climatological perspective (https://egu.eu/29MIKF) Ocean Science (OS) * Characteristics and causes of Deep Western Boundary Current transport variability at 34.5°S during 2009–2014 (https://egu.eu/2HDXPY) SOIL * Soil conservation in the 21st century: why we need smart agricultural intensification (https://egu.eu/8ITPKR) The Cryosphere (TC) * Surge dynamics and lake outbursts of Kyagar Glacier, Karakoram (https://egu.eu/4OB38F) Other papers highlighted by the editors of EGU's open access journals are available online at https://www.egu.eu/news/journal-watch/. ------------------------------------------------------------ EGU BLOGS GeoLog, the official EGU blog * Communicate your Science Video Competition finalists 2017: time to get voting!
