ISSUE 35, NOVEMBER 2017 EGU NEWSLETTER Monthly information service for members of the European Geosciences Union Read this email in HTML format at https://www.egu.eu/newsletter/egu/35/email/ ============================================================ HIGHLIGHTS Following ongoing unrest at Agung in Bali, Indonesia over the past couple of months, the volcano is now emitting dense clouds of ash and incandescence is visible at night at the summit. Read the GMPV Division update on the eruption here (https://egu.eu/7XS1W1). Another natural hazard also occurred this month: on the evening of 12 November, a magnitude 7.3 earthquake hit the Iraq–Iran border region. You can find detailed information about the tremor on the EGU website (https://egu.eu/7OMJT8). In other news, the EGU has opened applications to both the EGU 2018 General Assembly mentoring programme (https://egu.eu/9B57MA) and the EGU Public Engagement Grants (https://egu.eu/3O6CM2) this month. Follow the links to find out more. If you’d like to apply for funding to attend the General Assembly (https://egu.eu/5H818V) next year, make sure to submit your conference abstract by tomorrow (https://egu.eu/2WN0JA)! Early next month, we'll be announcing the results of the EGU Election Autumn 2017 for the next EGU Union President, General Secretary and Division Presidents. Check the EGU website (https://www.egu.eu/elections/) or your inbox in the next few days to find out who won. ------------------------------------------------------------ IN THIS ISSUE General Assembly EGU News Journal Watch EGU Blogs ------------------------------------------------------------ EGU NEWS * Agung volcanic eruption: what’s going on in Indonesia (https://egu.eu/7XS1W1) * Iraq–Iran earthquake: what we know so far (https://egu.eu/7OMJT8) * Applications open for EGU Public Engagement Grants (https://egu.eu/3O6CM2) * EGU co-sponsoring 13 training schools in 2018 (https://egu.eu/3XE5OF) * EGU members: be the first to try out the new EGU website (https://egu.eu/4IYTG0) * EGU Galileo Conference programme: call for proposals opening tomorrow (https://egu.eu/4Z7SLQ) * Press release: Climate changes triggered immigration to America in the 19th century (https://egu.eu/7LZAF4) * Press release: Applications open for EGU 2018 Science Journalism Fellowships (up to €5k, deadline 5 December, https://egu.eu/3ZGLQ7) More EGU news items are available on the EGU website at https://www.egu.eu/news/all/. ------------------------------------------------------------ GENERAL ASSEMBLY * EGU2018: Financial support to attend the General Assembly (https://egu.eu/5H818V, deadline tomorrow!) * Applications open for the EGU General Assembly Mentoring Programme (https://egu.eu/9B57MA) * A first-timer's guide to the 2018 General Assembly (https://egu.eu/06XQDR) * What’s new for the 2018 General Assembly?
