ISSUE 39, MARCH 2018 EGU NEWSLETTER Monthly information service for members of the European Geosciences Union Read this email in HTML format at www.egu.eu/newsletter/egu/39/email/ ============================================================ HIGHLIGHTS With the EGU General Assembly just over a week away, we have a number of updates on the meeting, happening in Vienna from 8–13 April. Our conference organiser Copernicus has launched a great mobile app (https://app.egu2018.eu/), and we recently announced a number of measures to reduce the environmental impact (https://egu.eu/5MRBXI) of the conference, from encouraging people to travel by train to introducing an option for participants to offset their carbon footprint. On the EGU blog, GeoLog, you can find posts about the city of Vienna (https://egu.eu/044Q6I), and a selection of Union-wide events (https://egu.eu/4KTG59), short courses (https://egu.eu/2ZZXNJ) and policy activities (https://egu.eu/8M1I36) at the EGU General Assembly. For students taking part in the Outstanding Student Poster and PICO, there are also some tips from the judges on how to prepare a poster or PICO presentation (https://egu.eu/7AXNLR). This month, we have also announced that we are accepting nominations for EGU awards and medals (https://egu.eu/0OQHPJ). We encourage the EGU membership to consider gender, geographical and cultural balance when nominating outstanding Earth, planetary and space scientists at various career stages. Last but not the least, we have also announced that we are launching two new publications (https://egu.eu/9PY2HQ) at the 2018 General Assembly: a journal, Geoscience Communication, and a compilation, the Encyclopedia of Geosciences. Find these and many other EGU updates below. ------------------------------------------------------------ IN THIS ISSUE General Assembly EGU News Journal Watch EGU Blogs ------------------------------------------------------------ GENERAL ASSEMBLY * EGU takes measures to reduce environmental impact of its General Assembly (https://egu.eu/5MRBXI) * EGU2018 mobile app is now available for iPhones and Android smartphones (https://app.egu2018.eu/) * EGU Public Lecture, an event for the Viennese public (https://egu.eu/5EWXCE) * EGU 2018: Getting to Vienna, getting to sleep and getting to know the city (https://egu.eu/044Q6I) * Short courses at EGU 2018 (https://egu.eu/2ZZXNJ) * Getting involved with policy at the 2018 General Assembly (https://egu.eu/8M1I36) * Union-wide events at EGU 2018 (https://egu.eu/4KTG59) * Making a poster or PICO presentation: top tips from the Outstanding Student Poster and PICO (OSPP) Award judges (https://egu.eu/7AXNLR) * Caution on third-party registration offers: the official and only manner for EGU members to register to the EGU 2018 General Assembly is through egu2018.eu.
