ISSUE 41, MAY 2018 EGU NEWSLETTER Monthly information service for members of the European Geosciences Union Read this email in HTML format at www.egu.eu/newsletter/egu/41/email/ ============================================================ HIGHLIGHTS The deadline to nominate brilliant scientists (https://egu.eu/0OQHPJ) for the EGU 2019 awards and medals is this month, on the 15th. To increase diversity in the group of EGU awardees and medallists, we encourage the EGU membership to consider gender, geographical and cultural balance when nominating outstanding Earth, planetary and space scientists at various career stages. Other important dates to keep in mind are 3 June, the deadline for submitting your feedback on the EGU 2018 General Assembly (https://egu.eu/0LRZ8R), and 18 June, the deadline for presenting authors at the meeting to submit their presentations (https://egu.eu/9ZPWWB) to our online repository. Also of highlight is the call for proposals for training schools and conference series, opening on Friday (check egu.eu then). We will be launching two new EGU conference series, named in honour of two female scientists. ------------------------------------------------------------ IN THIS ISSUE EGU News General Assembly Journal Watch EGU Blogs ------------------------------------------------------------ EGU NEWS * Nominate candidates for EGU awards and medals by 15 June (https://egu.eu/0OQHPJ) * EGU Committee on Education seeking new members (https://egu.eu/9HB5XG) * HESS article most cited source on Wikipedia (https://egu.eu/1Z19QF) * ESD Ideas – Earth System Dynamics journal launches new manuscript type (https://egu.eu/72BZYI) * Opening Friday: Apply for EGU financial support for training schools and conference series More EGU news items are available on the EGU website at www.egu.eu/news/all/. ------------------------------------------------------------ GENERAL ASSEMBLY * Give us your EGU 2018 General Assembly feedback and help us improve next year’s conference (https://egu.eu/0LRZ8R, deadline 3 June) * Abstract authors: upload your EGU 2018 presentation (https://egu.eu/9ZPWWB) by 18 June * Watch the conference highlights, EGU 2018 Union sessions, Union medal lectures, great debates and press conferences online (https://egu.eu/2B9FV0) * The EGU 2018 General Assembly documented through art (https://egu.eu/6CMB96) More about the EGU General Assembly at https://www.egu2018.eu. ------------------------------------------------------------ JOURNAL WATCH Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics (ACP) * Contrails and their impact on shortwave radiation and photovoltaic power production – a regional model study (https://egu.eu/4DYSFU) * Global evaluation and calibration of a passive air sampler for gaseous mercury (https://egu.eu/48RMIG) Atmospheric Measurement Techniques (AMT) * Vertical wind velocity measurements using a five-hole probe with remotely piloted aircraft to study aerosol–cloud interactions (https://egu.eu/3S19O6) * Adaption of an array spectroradiometer for total ozone column retrieval using direct solar irradiance measurements in the UV spectral range (https://egu.eu/71PZZW) Climate of the Past (CP) * Aromatic acids in an Arctic ice core from Svalbard: a proxy record of biomass burning (https://egu.eu/6DODW2) * Random and externally controlled occurrences of Dansgaard–Oeschger events (https://egu.eu/8OB403) * Technical note: Open-paleo-data implementation pilot – the PAGES 2k special issue (https://egu.eu/06I0Q7) Earth System Dynamics (ESD) * Estimating sowing and harvest dates based on the Asian summer monsoon (https://egu.eu/2VNEZ9) * Analytically tractable climate–carbon cycle feedbacks under 21st century anthropogenic forcing (https://egu.eu/8G6SET) Geoscientific Model Development (GMD) * Crossing the chasm: how to develop weather and climate models for next generation computers?
