ISSUE 42, JUNE 2018 EGU NEWSLETTER Monthly information service for members of the European Geosciences Union Read this email in HTML format at www.egu.eu/newsletter/egu/42/email/ ============================================================ HIGHLIGHTS This month the EGU has opened a call for financial support (https://egu.eu/2GSGU5/) for training schools in the Earth, planetary or space sciences scheduled for 2019. We also welcome proposals for conferences on solar system and planetary processes, as well as on biochemical processes in the Earth system, in line with two new conference series we are launching that are named after two female scientists. Also this month, we have opened the EGU 2019 General Assembly call for sessions (https://egu.eu/3YREC1/), with 6 September as a deadline for scientific sessions, short courses and townhall meetings. The deadline to submit proposals for Union Symposia and Great Debates is 15 August. Last but not the least, we are pleased to announced we have raised 17,000 EUR for a carbon offsetting scheme (https://egu.eu/7X03A5/), thanks to 2018 General Assembly participants. ------------------------------------------------------------ IN THIS ISSUE EGU News General Assembly Journal Watch EGU Blogs ------------------------------------------------------------ EGU NEWS * Follow EU policy news on the EGU website (https://egu.eu/9E9VIE/) * Apply for EGU financial support for training schools and propose conferences within two new series (https://egu.eu/2GSGU5/) More EGU news items are available on the EGU website at www.egu.eu/news/all/. ------------------------------------------------------------ GENERAL ASSEMBLY * EGU raises 17,000 EUR for carbon offsetting scheme, thanks to General Assembly participants (https://egu.eu/7X03A5/) * EGU 2019 public call for sessions now open (https://egu.eu/3YREC1/) * Deadlines and milestones for the EGU 2019 General Assembly announced (https://egu.eu/27ZALL/) More about the EGU General Assembly at https://www.egu2019.eu. ------------------------------------------------------------ JOURNAL WATCH Annales Geophysicae (ANGEO) * New high-frequency (7–12kHz) quasi-periodic VLF emissions observed on the ground at L~5.5 (https://egu.eu/9A6MYO/) Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics (ACP) * Estimates of ozone return dates from Chemistry-Climate Model Initiative simulations (https://egu.eu/5FJ6R4/) * Surface impacts of the Quasi Biennial Oscillation (https://egu.eu/8BIO73/) * On ozone trend detection: using coupled chemistry–climate simulations to investigate early signs of total column ozone recovery (https://egu.eu/8OCKSL/) Atmospheric Measurement Techniques (AMT) * Airborne wind lidar observations over the North Atlantic in 2016 for the pre-launch validation of the satellite mission Aeolus (https://egu.eu/3U92P3/) Biogeosciences (BG) * Transfer of diazotroph-derived nitrogen to the planktonic food web across gradients of N2 fixation activity and diversity in the western tropical South Pacific Ocean (https://egu.eu/78PWOU/) * Reviews and syntheses: Carbonyl sulfide as a multi-scale tracer for carbon and water cycles (https://egu.eu/87I7VM/) * Field-warmed soil carbon changes imply high 21st-century modeling uncertainty (https://egu.eu/1EB88R/) Earth Surface Dynamics (ESurf) * On the Holocene evolution of the Ayeyawady megadelta (https://egu.eu/3JQJ7V/) * Glacial isostatic adjustment modelling: historical perspectives, recent advances, and future directions (https://egu.eu/1TOV5X/) Earth System Dynamics (ESD) * Climate sensitivity estimates – sensitivity to radiative forcing time series and observational data (https://egu.eu/6U87ZW/) * On the social dynamics of moisture recycling (https://egu.eu/8FRB9S/) * Hazards of decreasing marine oxygen: the near-term and millennial-scale benefits of meeting the Paris climate targets (https://egu.eu/99TJEW/) * Two drastically different climate states on an Earth-like terra-planet (https://egu.eu/2ZGTE0/) * Assessing the impact of a future volcanic eruption on decadal predictions (https://egu.eu/6ERZ94/) Geoscience Communication (GC) * Editorial: Geoscience Communication – Building bridges, not walls (https://egu.eu/8XZA99/) Ocean Science (OS) * Acoustic mapping of mixed layer depth (https://egu.eu/04RYPO/) * High-resolution diapycnal mixing map of the Alboran Sea thermocline from seismic reflection images (https://egu.eu/3HOLBP/) * Consideration of various aspects in a drift study of MH370 debris (https://egu.eu/4EXY5P/) Solid Earth (SE) * The seismogenic fault system of the 2017 Mw 7.3 Iran–Iraq earthquake: constraints from surface and subsurface data, cross-section balancing, and restoration (https://egu.eu/6JTXJL/) The Cryosphere (TC) * Snow depth on Arctic sea ice from historical in situ data (https://egu.eu/4FN5U7/) Other papers highlighted by the editors of EGU's open access journals are available online at https://egu.eu/4XF4JN. ------------------------------------------------------------ EGU BLOGS GeoLog, the EGU blog * Give us the foundation to build our transferrable skills!
