ISSUE 44, AUGUST 2018 EGU NEWSLETTER Monthly information service for members of the European Geosciences Union Read this email in HTML format at https://www.egu.eu/newsletter/egu/44/email/ ============================================================ HIGHLIGHTS A paper (https://egu.eu/1XDGGQ/) published in the EGU journal Natural Hazards and Earth System Sciences this month shows that landslides triggered by human activity are on the rise. The conclusion is by a team at the UK's Sheffield University who compiled data on over 4800 fatal landslides during a 13-year period. You can read the press release on the EGU website (https://egu.eu/93UOWE/). Next month brings two important EGU deadlines. The call for candidates for EGU Treasurer is open until 15 September: we encourage EGU members to nominate themselves or propose a candidate (https://egu.eu/78G1JM/). Before that, on 6 September, is the deadline to submit session proposals and short course ideas to the EGU 2019 General Assembly. We hope you help us shape the conference programme by submitting your proposals (https://egu.eu/3YREC1/). ------------------------------------------------------------ IN THIS ISSUE EGU News General Assembly Journal Watch EGU Blogs ------------------------------------------------------------ EGU NEWS * EGU Committee on Education seeking tertiary education specialists (deadline: 15 September, https://egu.eu/950LZX) * Press release: Landslides triggered by human activity on the rise (https://egu.eu/93UOWE) * EGU Autumn 2018 elections: call for candidates open until 15 September (https://egu.eu/78G1JM/) More EGU news items are available on the EGU website at https://www.egu.eu/news/all/. ------------------------------------------------------------ GENERAL ASSEMBLY * Deadline approaching!
