ISSUE 51, MARCH 2019 EGU NEWSLETTER Monthly information service for members of the European Geosciences Union Read this email in HTML format at https://www.egu.eu/newsletter/egu/51/email/ ============================================================ HIGHLIGHTS With the EGU General Assembly just over a week away, we have a number of updates on the meeting, happening in Vienna from 7–12 April. We have announced that Former Italian Prime Minister and European Commissioner Mario Monti and Former Italian Parliamentarian Ilaria Capua will be at the EGU meeting (https://egu.eu/6ILOIP), participating in a conversation with geoscientists on ‘Science, Politics and European (dis)integration’. We have also recently announced a number of measures to reduce the environmental impact of the conference (https://egu.eu/1IS6IW): we encourage all participants to offset their carbon footprint from travelling to Vienna and to bring their own coffee cup and water bottle to the meeting, to reduce the number of disposable items used. Follow the links under the ‘General Assembly’ section below for more information about the EGU meeting. This month, we have also announced that we are accepting nominations for EGU awards and medals (https://egu.eu/917MUU). We encourage the EGU membership to consider gender, geographical and cultural balance when nominating outstanding Earth, planetary and space scientists at various career stages. Stay tuned to https://www.egu.eu next week for an announcement about a new EGU journal! ------------------------------------------------------------ IN THIS ISSUE General Assembly EGU News Journal Watch EGU Blogs ------------------------------------------------------------ GENERAL ASSEMBLY * Former Italian Prime Minister and European Commissioner Mario Monti and Former Italian Parliamentarian Ilaria Capua at the EGU meeting (https://egu.eu/6ILOIP) * From "Bring your own water bottle" to "Mobile app" and "Preferred pronouns": a few things to keep in mind for the EGU General Assembly (https://egu.eu/2UJSXM) * Accessibility at the General Assembly 2019 (https://egu.eu/1RESEM) * Make your EGU 2019 experience more environmentally friendly (https://egu.eu/1IS6IW) * Arts and Society at the General Assembly 2019 (https://egu.eu/2WTAX7) * Advance your career at the General Assembly 2019 (https://egu.eu/2DFYGV/) * What’s on for early career scientists at the Assembly in 2019 (https://egu.eu/2VV66B/) * Union-wide events at EGU 2019 (https://egu.eu/2DFYGV/) * Short courses at EGU 2019 (https://egu.eu/2LR6T9/) * Presenting at the General Assembly 2019: A quick ‘how to’ from the EGU (https://egu.eu/2IQ64H) * EGU 2019: Connect at the Networking & Early Career Scientists’ Zone (https://egu.eu/7SKWLT) * Making a poster or PICO presentation: top tips from the Outstanding Student Poster and PICO (OSPP) Award judges (https://egu.eu/6L3EG0) * Reminder: More time for presentations & networking in 2019 (https://egu.eu/2G7R2G) More about the EGU General Assembly at https://www.egu2019.eu. ------------------------------------------------------------ EGU NEWS * Nominate candidates for EGU awards and medals by 15 June (https://egu.eu/917MUU) * Exploring Geoscience Across the Globe: Freely available, EGU-supported textbook out now!
