Dear ERE community,

Welcome to the August newsletter of the EGU Energy, Resources, and the Environment Division!

We hope you had a nice summer, and wish to remind you that the deadline for your session proposal for the 2026 EGU General Assembly (3–8 May 2026) is approaching soon. In this newsletter you'll find all the necessary information for the submission process.

Please spread the word and inform your colleagues about these opportunities and the deadline for session proposals on September 16, 2025.

We look forward to receiving your suggestions soon!

The EGU26 Call-for-session-proposal is open

The EGU26 general assembly is a platform for geoscientists from across the globe that enables them to present their work and discuss latest topics with experts in all fields of geoscience.

📍 Call for session proposals is open until 16 September 2025.

We invite you to shape the ERE program by proposing an oral, PICO or poster session. Please see the EGU26 website for the current session proposals and to upload your own proposal. We are looking forward for your suggestions and you may always contact us if you have any questions!

Tips and Guidelines

SESSION CONVENERS

When suggesting a Session, Short Course, or Townhall Meeting, as a general guideline, we strongly encourage considering and promoting under-represented demographics, in particular including:

  • Multiple countries and institutes,
  • Different career stages, with particular attention to the participation of Early Career Scientists,
  • Different genders and all other forms of diversity, and
  • Diverse scientific approaches.

Please check with all conveners that they agree to take part in the proposed session.

SESSION PROGRAM GROUP (PG)

The ERE Program Group is divided into sub-programmes for different topics:

When making suggestions, explore the program groups and place your proposal only into the PG that is most closely aligned with the proposed session's subject area. Please avoid submitting session proposals that are similar to sessions already suggested. In this case, it is possible to suggest modifications to an earlier session proposal.
If the subject area of your proposal is strongly aligned with two or more PGs, co-organization is possible and encouraged between PGs. You will be able to indicate PGs that you believe should be approached for co-organization in the session submission form. Only put your session proposal into one PG.

SHORT COURSES

To ensure that your preferred learning topics and the most relevant aspects of capacity building are well represented in our ERE Division, we would like to invite you to submit a Short Course (SC) proposal.
Short Courses should provide an interactive forum to develop or discuss skills and abilities relevant to the geosciences, when drafting your proposal consider the following points:

  • The use of open-source resources is strongly encouraged.
  • The operation or demonstration of commercial software or hardware is permitted; however, direct commercial activities are not allowed.
  • Topics should be of interest to more than one Programme Group.

New topics are encouraged (no automatic roll-over from previous year).
The SC proposals should be interdisciplinary, with hands-on experience (interactive activities, tutorial-like courses), involve Early Career Scientists, and with an emphasis on career development, networking, and topics beyond pure science.

TOWNHALL AND SPLINTER MEETINGS

From 22 October 2025 until 16 January 2026 you can apply for Townhall Meetings and non-commercial Splinter Meetings. Townhall Meetings offer an active discussion platform that is open to all interested participants to inform them of new opportunities and initiatives. These are on-site only events. Rooms for a splinter meeting can also be booked for smaller, targeted discussion groups.

SESSION PROGRAM COMPOSITION

The program committee will take into account all suggested sessions and use them to compile the final session program as the basis for the call-for-abstracts. Next, conveners of approved sessions will be asked to actively promote their sessions and the public will be invited to submit their abstracts from 22nd October 2025. This will be announced by a separate email.

CONTACTS
