[THE LOUPE] YOUR EGU GEOSCIENCE RESOURCE - APRIL AND MAY 2025 ============================================================= A community united at EGU25! Another record-breaking year demonstrated the resilience of a scientific community that supports each other in the pursuit of ethical and evidence-based science. Once again EGU25 was a record-breaking meeting (https://egu.eu/778F1Y/), with 20,984 attendees both onsite in Vienna and online around the world, but what was clear from the meeting was the power that our community has to stand together to champion ethical science conducted with integrity and a focus on robust, evidence-based approaches. From a late-breaking Great Debate on responding to recent attacks on science (https://egu.eu/3GUK1N/) to sessions on ethics in publishing (https://egu.eu/69CLRQ/) and the role of fieldwork in geoscience (https://egu.eu/2W01B1/), the EGU community was once again united in a desire to promote the best quality science, without sacrificing scientists to do it. If you missed anything, the on-demand viewing (https://egu.eu/19UIL2/) is open to all from 1 June 2025. Several ground-breaking pieces of research were presented, from new discoveries about the internal structure of Jupiter's moon Io (https://egu.eu/6QDAJB/); an innovative new way to measure glacier melting (https://egu.eu/1CWHPB/); and a discussion of the role of AI in geoscientific research (https://egu.eu/5QEM6J/) \- the meeting was buzzing with new discussions. Read all the EGU's coverage over on the EGU Geolog (https://blogs.egu.eu/geolog/), and watch the Press Conferences (https://egu.eu/19Z452/) on our YouTube channel now. Finally the EGU awards and medals (https://egu.eu/1WJWEA/) are open for nominations until 15 June 2025. They cover a range of topics at different career stages, and recognise scientists for their outstanding research contribution the geosciences. You can also nominate your colleagues for recognition in science communication and outreach (https://egu.eu/9M9JNF/), science journalism (https://egu.eu/7IACWV/), service to EGU (https://egu.eu/2PKARE/), efforts to improve equality, diversity and inclusion in geoscience (https://egu.eu/068G1W/) and, for the first time, Science for Policy (https://www.egu.eu/awards-medals/science-for-policy-award/)! Nomination is a simple process (https://egu.eu/5E9QX9/), so submit your colleagues for recognition, today! EGU's Climate Hazards and Risk Task Force In October 2024, the EGU Council approved Climate Hazard and Risk as the 2025-2028 Policy Priority Area, and the Union has now established the EGU Climate Hazard and Risk Task Force (https://egu.eu/2E668I/) formed by an open call and competitive selection process! The 10 selected experts cover a range of relevant scientific disciplines and skills and will be supported by a group of external experts. You can view the group and follow their work here (https://www.egu.eu/policy/climate-hazard-and-risk/). JOURNAL WATCH ------------- Each month we choose a scientific paper published in one of EGU’s open access journals to be our Journal Watch, but did you know you can also access preprints, abstracts and supplementary materials from our meetings and annual General Assembly through EGUsphere?
