Pride in our community

A celebration of the innovative research done by the incredibly diverse EGU community

June is always a fun month here at EGU, being both international Pride Month and the month with a lot of focus on ocean and hydrological sciences, so this month we were pleased to bring a collection of blogs celebrating a range of ideas to your screens! We heard from Micah Reismann on how marine biology can be very gender fluid, Vanessa Raditz used climate change to talk about protecting queer researchers, Asmae Ourkiya talked about pride and resilience, and Fernanda Matos described how her allyship is active–and how yours can be too

Asmae Ourkiya revealed how new research published this month in EGU journal Hydrology and Earth System Sciences (HESS) brings a valuable new perspective to hydrological process modelling, and Simon Clark spoke with Delphine Urbah, who is connecting ideas around cultural inclusivity with space exploration!

Although it seems like the General Assembly just ended, don't forget that the submission window for EGU27 sessions, short courses and keynotes (Union Symposia and Great Debates) opens soon, on the 20 July to be exact, and will be open until 23 Sepetmber 2026

SCIENCE FOR POLICY

Revisiting the key Science for Policy conversations at EGU26

This month's GeoPolicy blog post highlights some key themes emerged from the #Sci4Pol sessions at EGU26. While each of the sessions had their own focus, the themes like innovation, policy for science, science communication and policy impact were cross-cutting.

To revisit the stimulating EGU26 week, check out the blog post here. You can also watch the recordings of the union-wide sessions on the EGU26 platform, and review the session materials linked on the individual Short Course descriptions.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Bringing so-called ‘negative’ results into EGU publications with the new manuscript formats: LESSONS

Two new manuscript types are being introduced by EGU Publications in partnership with our publisher Copernicus, that encourage the sharing of so-called ‘negative’ results via our interactive open access publications; introducing the LESSONS (Limitations, Errors, Surprises, Shortcomings and Opportunities for New Science) Reports and LESSONS Posts! Learn more about how to submit a manuscript with these new formats here.

JOURNAL WATCH

"Major processes that drive estuarine mixing are presented on various time scales (tidal, fortnightly, weather and discharge time scales) and spatial scales (channel-shoal interaction, mixing fronts). As underlying methods for the quantification of mixing, observational concepts, as well as numerical modelling methods such as consistent turbulence closure modelling and numerical mixing analyses are presented."
