Dear Colleagues, 

Welcome back to a new academic year! Activities on the EGU Ocean Sciences side are back in full swing and we would like to highlight a few items. The call for session proposals for the EGU27 General Assembly (4-9 April 2027) is still open until 23 September. We would like to encourage anyone, and in particular Early Career Researchers, to submit any exciting ideas that could enrich the Ocean Sciences Programme and the collaboration with other thematic Divisions. The next Ocean Sciences Campfire is scheduled for 29 September 2026 at 13:00 CEST and will feature a talk on the eddy subduction carbon pump by Maxime Keutgen De Greef (see more details below). We look forward to seeing many of you there!

Ocean Sciences Campfire #4

Our campfires are back after a break over the summer! On September 29 at 13:00 CEST we are joined by Maxime Keutgen De Greef who will give a talk titled "Do eddies actually transport that much carbon? A global view of the eddy subduction pump". Join the ECS team!

The OS ECS team launched two new activities in 2026: the monthly OS Division newsletter and the Ocean Sciences Campfires webinars series, which features research by early career scientists from across the world on a wide range of topics within oceanography. For 2027, we are hoping to expand our reach even further and continue keeping our community active throughout the year by organising meaningful initiatives. 

This month we want to highlight online training on The Copernicus Arctic Hub: Data and Tools for the Arctic. The training runs 22 September - 24 September and includes accessing, analysing and visualising Arctic data combing tools such as Jupyter Notebook QGIS and R.

This month's blog highlight is a contribution from Clare Lewis on Meteotsunami waves - how they form, their impacts and how they are monitored.
