Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to the July newsletter of the EGU Soil System Sciences Division! This month, we invite you to celebrate the Soil Monitoring Law agreement under the trilogue, revisit the last EUSO Stakeholders Forum on Competitiveness, and get to know the new SSS and ECS team through our new SSS Blog post and the Linkedin and Bluesky pages. Moreover, we also have some reminders for the EUROSOIL and the opening of the EGU 26 session proposals.

What recently happened on Soil System Sciences?

EU – THE SOIL MONITORING LAW PASSED THE TRILOGUE!

The Soil Monitoring Law aims to ensure healthy soils in EU by 2025 and progress on EU Zero Pollution ambition. Among others, the agreements provide the monitoring and assessment of soil health using common soil descriptors and an EU methodology for sampling points. In support, the Commission will reinforce the EU soil sampling program LUCAS Soils.

The 1st part of the EUSO Stakeholders Forum took place online in June 12th. Talks included business models related to carbon farming, remediation, the banking sector, AgriTech, the food chain, biotechnology, bio-fertilizers and -pesticides development, and laboratories. Recordings are available online.

A 2nd part will take place in September 9th. Focusing on innovative advancements and breakthroughs within the Mission Soil projects, this in-person event will be hosted within EUROSOIL 2025, in Spain.

EUROSOIL, 8-12 SEPTEMBER: REGULAR REGISTRATION UNTIL AUGUST 1ST

The EUROSOIL 2025 Meeting will be held in Seville, Spain, from September 8th to 12th. This exciting event will feature five days of scientific and technical sessions, complemented by social and cultural activities.
