EGU ANNOUNCES THE 2026 AWARDS AND MEDALS!

|
EGU has named the 52 recipients of next year’s Union Medals and Awards, Division Medals, and Division Outstanding Early Career Scientist Awards, based on their important contributions to the Earth, planetary and space sciences. They will be celebrated during EGU26, held from 3-8 May, 2026. Read More Here

Discover the article: “Improved management increases soil mineral-protected organic carbon storage via plant-microbial-nutrient mediation in semi-arid grasslands”. By Alejandro Carrascosa, Gerardo Moreno, M. Francesca Cotrufo, Cristina Frade, Sara Rodrigo, and Víctor Rolo. They revealed rotational grazing increased SOC, especially mineral-protected fraction, while exclusion reduced particulate organic carbon stocks. The Emerging Technologies for DRR initiative of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) seeks to improve efficiency of tools related to disaster and risk understanding and management by fostering collaboration between governments, technology providers, and partners from academia and civil society in a webinar series including ‘From potential to practice - Understanding the technology adoption gap’. FUNDING TO HOST EGU-SPONSORED GEOSCIENCE DAY 2026 PUBLIC EVENT!

Applications for the EGU Geoscience Day 2026 is open until the end of 19 January 2026! EGU is inviting applications for a grant of up to €10,000 to host the sixth EGU Geoscience Day. These one-day flagship public events are run each year in a rotating European country to raise awareness of the Earth, planetary and space sciences to school students, the wider public, policymakers and journalists. Attend an online cross-division Campfire meeting organized by the EGU Geochemistry, Mineralogy, Petrology, and Volcanology (GMPV) and Soil System Sciences (SSS) Divisions for early-career researchers and PhD students! On 17 December, Four interesting presentations and exchange times are planned with the idea to discuss heavy metals and organo-compounds as media of soil contamination and explore how minerals can be applied for remediation and stabilization.
