DESCRIPTION:<p>The Energy\, Resources and Energy (ERE) Division invites yo
 u to attend a campfire related to hydroshearing and microseismicity.\, fea
 turing guest speaker Iman Vaezi (Uppsala University).</p><p>This campfire 
 will will discuss hydroshearing in fractured crystalline rock observed dur
 ing hydraulic stimulation at the Bedretto Underground Laboratory for Geosc
 iences and Geoenergies (BULGG) in Switzerland. High-pressure fluid injecti
 on was used to enhance fracture permeability\, and numerical simulations o
 f the coupled hydro-mechanical processes show that the timestamps of monit
 ored microseismic events correlate well with the times when permeability e
 nhancement surpasses the previously maximum amount in each injection cycle
 .</p>
