Highlights and Upcoming Deadlines

Congratulations to everyone who helped make EGU26 a success! The General Assembly welcomed 22,497 registered attendees, with 20,173 presentations across 1,014 sessions. Thank you to all HS contributors—keep an eye out for a dedicated HS Division summary from the GA soon. Also, don't forget to provide your feedback.

The MAR2PROTECT Parliamentary Session will take place on 2 June 2026 in Brussels, bringing together policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders to discuss how groundwater protection can be better embedded in EU policy. The event will present MAR2PROTECT’s policy recommendations and support dialogue on preventive groundwater management.

Join the next EGU Science for Policy Hangout on 1 June 2026, 14:00 CEST. This informal online event offers researchers a chance to discuss science-policy engagement, learn about upcoming opportunities, and connect with others working at the interface between science and decision-making.

This EGU webinar on 11 June 2026, 13:00 CEST, explores the fundamentals of communicating science online. Speakers Simon Clark and Simon D. A. Clark will discuss how to build online communities, create accessible content, and avoid common challenges in digital science communication.

Registration is now open for the Catchment Science Summer School, hosted at the University of Birmingham from 6–11 September 2026. Organised through the McDonnell Hydrology Lab, the school offers an opportunity to engage deeply with catchment hydrology, field-based learning, and current research approaches.

The University of Florence’s Water Harvesting Lab is offering an online professional course on Water Harvesting in Sub-Saharan Africa. Applications close on 5 June 2026, with the course running from 29 June to 30 September 2026, covering siting, design, management, and monitoring of water harvesting systems.

The 10th International Symposium on Integrated Water Resources Management / 11th EGU Leonardo Symposium will take place at ANU from 9–13 September 2026. The event will focus on decision support, co-design, local voices, and inclusive approaches to resilient water resources management.

Blogs from the HS Division

This HS blog post follows Liz Flint and the University of Bristol’s Watershed Carbon Lab as they measure greenhouse gas emissions from urban waterways using creative, low-cost field equipment. It highlights practical field innovation, public engagement, and ongoing research into methane emissions from rivers and canals.
