Despite the looming climate crisis, there is hope on the horizon, but not for long

Is humanity truly at a crossroads? Earth Day was in the spotlight this month, calling us to pause and examine our role in today’s changing global climate. In response to this call, EGU has joined together with fourteen other geoscience organisations around the world, to share our commitment to making the changes needed to create a just and sustainable future for humanity and the planet. You can read the full statement here. April’s GeoPolicy blog also focuses on current climate change projections and what our path ahead could look like for governments, industries, and people.

We met Anita Di Chiara, a paleomagnetist studying the origin and evolution of the Earth’s magnetic field. As EGU’s Early Career Scientist (ECS) Representative, Anita acts as a liaison between Union Council and the ECS community. She explains how ECS can get more involved in EGU and the scientific community in this month’s Geo Talk blog.

Nominations open for EGU Medal and Awards

EGU offers over 50 medals and awards to honour individual contributions to the Earth, planetary, and space sciences. Send in your nominations by 15 June 2022! To help us increase diversity among EGU awardees and medallists, EGU encourages members to consider gender, geographical, and cultural balance when nominating scientists at various career stages.

The 2023 awards and medals, which will be announced in October 2022, will be presented to their recipients at the EGU General Assembly 2023. Read more here.

EGU22: Ask a Science for Policy Expert

This year, EGU22 participants can have their questions answered by science for policy experts through 30-minute 1-on-1 meetings throughout the General Assembly (23-27 May 2022).

Meetings can be requested both virtually and in-person. Please submit your question(s) here by 16 May 2022.

This year EGU22 will be held both on-site in Vienna and virtually everywhere. Although registration for on-site participation has closed, you can still register to join virtually anytime until 27 May 2022, the last day of EGU22.
