Each year, the EGU General Assembly offers a wide variety of scientific sessions as well as numerous non-scientific sessions and activities that you can participate in to expand your network, diversify your expertise, and develop new skills! This includes an extensive Science for Policy Programme that is supported by the EGU Science for Policy Working Group and the EGU community. 

By submitting your own science for policy-themed session, you can help develop this programme and ensure that the General Assembly offers are focused on topics that EGU27 participants care about and want to actively engage with! 

So what sessions do you want to see in the programme this year? With the submission deadline approaching (23 September), it’s now time to propose your session and help contribute to the exciting EGU27 #Science4Policy programme!

As desirable as it may be for scientists to engage in policymaking, it can be difficult to know where to start! The Erasmus+ project ‘Enhancing Institutional Capacities and Researchers’ Competencies for Policy Engagement for Green and Digital Transitions’ (ENGAGEgreen) recently published the Policy Engagement Toolkit.

The Toolkit offers a comprehensive overview of the diverse formats that not only scientists but also research managers and knowledge mobilisers can leverage to bring academic expertise into policymaking.

Each chapter dives into a breakdown of a specific policy engagement format or structure, as well as concrete, real-world case studies. These practical examples show that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to science-policy interaction.

S4PXchange is a new Horizon Europe project that aims to strengthen the European science for policy ecosystem in the face of complex challenges, including climate change and digital transformation. Coordinated by the European Science Foundation (ESF), the three-year project will bring together partner organisations from six countries to address the fragmentation in the science-policy landscape by improving connections between researchers, policymakers, and civil society.

The project puts special emphasis on mutual learning and training, policy dialogues, and a knowledge repository. You can keep an eye on their updates and outputs to learn more about Europe's science for policy ecosystem. The project also invites those who are interested in learning more about the project or engaging with it to get in touch.

On 16 October, the EU-funded projects Impetus4Change, ASPECT and Climateurope2 will hold a joint policy event, Bridging science to scale for seamless climate adaptation in Brussels. This half-day event will explore insights and policy recommendations from the three projects. It will also include the presentation of a joint policy brief offering concrete guidance on how to scale climate services for seamless, evidence-based adaptation across the EU.
