The 2014 Outstanding Student Poster (OSP) Award is awarded to Saúl González-Lemos for the poster/PICO entitled:

The use of water marks mapping to understand flood overflow events inside karstic cavities: Cueva Fría and Cueva Rosa (Asturias, NW Spain) (Gonzáles-Lemos, Saúl; Stoll, H. M.)

Saúl González-Lemos is a PhD student in the Department of Geology at the University of Oviedo in Spain, under the supervision of Dr. Heather M. Stoll. His PhD Project focuses on the detailed study of several caves that show evidence of having flooded in the past. Through detailed geomorphological mapping and sampling and subsequent multiproxy analysis of speleothems, the project aims to construct flooding models for each cave and establish the relationship between floods and climate during the Holocene.
The presentation at EGU 2014 focused on the study of two caves (Asturias – NW Spain) in which there is evidence of modern flooding. In these caves we have made detailed geomorphological mapping and studied stalagmites to establish a flooding model in each cave.
