EGU Galileo Conference programme: call for proposals 27 November 2019 The EGU is now accepting proposals for Galileo Conferences, which aim to address well-focused cutting-edge topics at the frontier of geosciences research. The conferences are informal: the state-of-the-art is outlined in keynote talks designed to trigger in-depth discussion of important aspects of the conference topic. EGU members can propose to organise a Galileo Conference and apply for funding by 29 February 2020. Read more

EGU to offset the travel emissions of every General Assembly participant 29 October 2019 In a first for major geoscience events, the carbon dioxide emissions of every participant’s travel to and from the European Geosciences Union’s annual General Assembly will be offset. Read more

2020 call for EGU Geoscience Education Field Officers 22 October 2019 The European Geosciences Union (EGU) is accepting applications until 2 December from teachers wishing to become geoscience education field officers. These positions offer professional development to school teachers who have elements of geoscience in their teaching curriculum. These positions are unpaid, but expenses are provided. Read more

Artists: apply for a residency at Europe’s largest geoscience conference 18 September 2019 For the third year in a row, the European Geosciences Union (EGU) will be hosting artists at its annual General Assembly. We are now opening a call for artists to apply for a residency at the 2020 conference, which is taking place in Vienna, Austria from 3-8 May 2020. The deadline for applications is 1 December. Burgundy wine grapes tell climate story, show warming accelerated in past 30 years Press release 29 August 2019 A newly published series of dates of grape harvest covering the past 664 years is the latest line of evidence confirming how unusual the climate of the past 30 years has been. The record shows wine grapes in Burgundy, eastern France, have been picked 13 days earlier on average since 1988 than they were in the previous six centuries, pointing to the region’s hotter and drier climate in recent years. The results are now published in Climate of the Past. Read more
