EGU Election Autumn 2019

The EGU Election Autumn 2019 for the next Union President, General Secretary and Division Presidents was closed on 30 November 2019. We would like to thank each of the candidates for their initiative in standing for the election. We also sincerely thank all those EGU members who used their voting right. Active participation in elections ensures continuation of the well-established bottom-up structure of our Union!

In total, 1414 EGU members voted in this election. Please see the results below.

Helen M. Glaves was elected to serve as EGU President for the term 2021–2023. Helen M. Glaves will be inaugurated during the EGU plenary meeting on 5 May 2020, serving first as the EGU Vice-President (President-Elect) for one year. The elected candidate will then serve as EGU President for two years (2021–2023) and finally as Vice-President (Past-President) for the fourth year. Note that the terms start and end at the Plenary which is held during the General Assembly.

Giuliana Panieri was elected as the EGU General Secretary for the term 2020–2022. Giuliana Panieri will be inaugurated during the EGU plenary meeting on 5 May 2020.

All elected candidates will serve as Division Presidents for the term 2021–2023. First-time elected Division Presidents (i.e., candidates who are not serving as Division Presidents at the time of the election) will be inaugurated during the EGU plenary meeting on 5 May 2020, and serve for one year as Deputy Presidents after their inauguration. They will then serve for a two-year term starting from the 2021 EGU plenary meeting and may stand for re-election for a further two years.

Lisa Wingate was elected as the BG Division President for the term 2021–2023.

Carleen Tijm-Reijmer was elected as the CR Division President for the term 2021–2023.

ESSI Earth and Space Science Informatics

Jens Klump was elected as the ESSI Division President for the term 2021–2023.

EMRP Earth Magnetism & Rock Physics

Fabio Florindo was elected as the EMRP Division President for the term 2021–2023.

Viktor Bruckman was elected as the ERE Division President for the term 2021–2023.

Marian Holness was elected as the GMPV Division President for the term 2021–2023.
