Ada Lovelace Workshops on Modelling Mantle and Lithosphere Dynamics

The goals of this conference series are:

The format of the workshop has invited keynote speeches concentrating on a number of select areas and all other presentations are by means of poster sessions. Workshops are usually held over five days in an isolated location, and are designed to optimise informal interactions between participants. The scientific agenda is focused on the outstanding questions in mantle and lithosphere dynamics and balances between identifying new research tools and using them to advance our fundamental understanding with creative techniques. Recent workshops have had around 120 participants. The aim is for two-thirds of the participants to be students.

The workshop series was initiated in 1987 in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, Germany, and workshops usually take place every two years. They have been located throughout Europe, including France, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Italy and Switzerland.

The workshops, previously known as International Workshops on Mantle and Lithosphere Dynamics, were renamed in 2018 by the EGU Topical Events Committee in honour of the 19th century English mathematician Ada Lovelace.
