The 2025 Outstanding Student and PhD candidate Presentation (OSPP) Award is awarded to Eline Eeckhout for the poster/PICO entitled:

UAV-based disease and pest detection using AI: Time to reconsider our approach? (Eeckhout, E.; Spanoghe, P.; Maes, W. H.)

Eline Eeckhout is a PhD candidate at the UAV Research Centre and the Crop Protection Chemistry lab at the University of Ghent, Belgium. Her research focuses on hyperspectral disease detection in grasses and cereals at both laboratory and field scale, where she applies machine and deep learning models to predict disease occurrence and severity before visual symptoms appear.

At EGU, she presented a poster investigating the application of machine and deep learning models for agricultural pest and disease detection using UAVs. She found critical limitations in the generalisation capacity of most trained models.
