Nathalie Heldwein is a PhD student at the Center for Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science (CeMESS) at the University of Vienna, Austria, working within the Division of Terrestrial Ecosystem Research (TER). Her research focuses on understanding the factors that control nitrous oxide emissions from soils. Currently, she is developing a novel method to extract hydroxylamine from soils and determine its concentration and 15N enrichment using high-resolution mass spectrometry. This approach can be applied in 15N tracer studies to investigate, for instance, the contribution of hydroxylamine to soil nitrous oxide emissions. At EGU25, she presented her latest progress in developing this method.
