Ray (Yan-Ruei) Huang recently completed his MSc in Climate Change and Sustainable Development at National Taiwan University, Taiwan. His research focuses on advancing product sustainability through methods such as Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Life Cycle Optimization, Circular Economy principles, and Multi-Objective Optimization. Ray is currently seeking PhD opportunities and would be glad to discuss potential positions in more detail (Contact: R12247006@ntu.edu.tw).
The presented poster, Rethinking Design for Sustainability: A Novel Multi-Objective Optimization Methodology for Sustainable Product Lifecycle Design, introduces an approach to optimize product life cycles from a comprehensive LCA perspective. This study investigates how product sustainability can be managed and improved across multiple objectives and metrics. The methodology follows four key steps and is demonstrated through an industrial case study on optimizing bubble tea packaging design across all life cycle stages.
The results identify optimal design solutions corresponding to different objective combinations and highlight the trade-offs among them. These insights provide actionable guidance for product designers and policymakers to develop strategies that more precisely enhance product sustainability.
