Job description

THE INSTITUTE AND THE RESEARCH CENTER
The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a new (established in 2005) and rapidly growing non-profit research and educational institution with scientific and technological focus. It is supported by the Government of Cyprus, which views its establishment as important to its overall policy of transforming Cyprus into a regional center for research and education.
The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC) of CyI pioneers the introduction, development and employment of intense computational methods and data to advance scientific and technological disciplines. Backed by CyI’s Tier-1 supercomputing facility, CaSToRC aspires to cultivate the use of High Performance Computing (HPC) and Data Science in Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean and to serve the needs for computational and data intensive applications.

SCIENTIFIC TOPICS
The following PhD research topics and themes will be pursued:
1. Earth System model development, code optimization and porting to new architectures,
2. Model applications in the regional and global domains through computational simulations and
3. The management, analysis and visualization of climate and atmospheric model generated data.


How to apply

QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for recent MSc graduates of Computer Science, Physical Sciences or Engineering, ideally specialized in Atmospheric Sciences. The students are expected to have strong analytical skills and background or experience in mathematics and computing. The preferred candidates will also have good communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in spoken and written English is essential; proficiency in Greek language will be considered an advantage.
