Job description

The geophysics group at the University of Michigan is seeking applicants for a post-doctoral research position in seismology to work on Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS). Research topics of interest include urban seismology, ocean-bottom seismology, volcanology, or environmental seismology. The candidate will have the opportunity to participate in DAS data collection and being involved in several projects for the coming years.

Candidates with a PhD in geophysics or a related area are welcome to apply. Strong knowledge of one or several of the following methods will be valued for this position: array techniques, machine/deep learning, ambient noise correlations, seismic imaging, waveform modeling. Working with DAS requires strong coding skills to scale existing and new algorithms to process very large amounts of seismic data.

Applicants should send a current curriculum vitae and a research statement to Zack Spica (zspica[at]umich.edu). Applications received by May 14th, 2021, will be considered fully. The preferred start date is September 2021, but flexibility is possible. The initial appointment is for one year, with an option to extend to a second year. The position includes a competitive salary with excellent benefits, research expenses, and participation in international conferences. The University of Michigan is an equal opportunity action employer.
