Job description

We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher (or higher-level research position) in regional coupled air–sea–wave modeling and parameterization. This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic research team working on the Northeastern Pacific Ocean, focusing on the interactions between ocean dynamics, air–sea coupling, and climate variability under ongoing and future climate change.

The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research that combines high-resolution numerical modeling (ROMS, COAWST) with data-driven and process-based analyses to understand key oceanic and atmospheric processes such as the variability of the Kuroshio, internal tides, upper-ocean stratification, and their roles in regional climate modulation. The project integrates both physics-based simulations and future climate scenario experiments (e.g., CMIP6) to address challenges in predicting regional ocean–atmosphere responses to global change.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and run regional ocean or coupled air-sea models (e.g., ROMS, COAWST).
  • Analyze variability of the Kuroshio, internal tides, stratification, and climate change impacts.
  • Conduct downscaling experiments using CMIP6 scenarios (e.g., SSP2-4.5, SSP5-8.5) and process the model outputs.
  • Publish research results in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at academic conferences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in climate science, atmospheric sciences, oceanography, or related fields.
  • Strong background in Physical Oceanography, atmospheric science, climate science.
  • Experience with ocean or coupled modeling.
  • Proficiency in scientific programming (e.g., Python, NCL, Matlab, Fortran etc.) and data analysis.

How to apply

To apply, please send CV, including a list of publication to Prof. Yu-heng Tseng tsengyh@ntu.edu.tw with the subject line “Postdoc Application – Regional Coupled Model”. The position will remain open until filled. We strongly encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds and welcome international applicants.
