We offer a 4-year fully funded PhD position in mountain hydrology titled “Where Does the Snow Go? Tracking Snowmelt Water Through Mountain Catchments”. The PhD project will focus on how changes in snow storage and subsequent snowmelt water release affect the distribution of water across the various components of the water cycle in the critical zone, and on how to attribute the observed changes to climate variability and catchment attributes. The project will combine field investigations (e.g., of water stable isotopes) of snowmelt runoff mechanisms with hydrological models to scale this information up to the catchment scale.
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a scientific interest in mountain hydrology. The candidate should be motivated to perform field research and have programming skills. The project will also be carried out in close cooperation with the Institute of Hydrology, Czech Academy of Sciences.
The candidate will be a member of the Hydrology Research Group at the Department of Physical Geography and Geoecology, Charles University, Prague. We are an active and diverse research group offering an interdisciplinary and international working environment.
Duration: 4 years, starting from October 1, 2026
Application deadline: March 31, 2026
