Postdoctoral Research Associate in Aerosol Science
Chungnam National University
Postdoctoral Position in Atmospheric Chemistry and Aerosol Science
Chungnam National University, Department of Environmental Engineering
The Atmospheric Chemistry and Climate Group at Chungnam National University (CNU) is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team. This position is supported by a nationally funded research program from the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF). CNU is located in Daejeon, widely recognized as Korea’s leading science and technology hub, and is approximately one hour from Seoul by high-speed train
This position offers an exciting opportunity to investigate the physicochemical and optical properties of aerosols, focusing on carbonaceous aerosols (e.g., black carbon and brown carbon), their aging processes, light absorption, and cloud interactions. The successful candidate will conduct cutting-edge laboratory experiments, primarily using oxidation flow reactors (OFRs), and integrate these results with field observations to better understand aerosol–climate interactions.
*Responsibilities
-Design and lead laboratory experiments using oxidation flow reactors and aerosol instrumentation
-Operate, maintain, and calibrate aerosol measurement instruments
-Participate in and support field campaigns and ambient measurements in Korea and/or Southeast Asia
-Analyze and interpret atmospheric data, including aerosol composition and optical properties (Python-based analysis required)
-Contribute to peer-reviewed publications and collaborative research projects
*What We Offer:
-Competitive salary supported by NRF-funded research programs
-Access to state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, including OFRs and advanced aerosol instrumentation (e.g., Single Particle Soot Photometer)
-Strong publication opportunities in leading journals (e.g., ACP, ES&T, JGR)
-Opportunities for independent research development (e.g., NRF grant applications), etc.
*Qualifications:
Qualifications-Ph.D. in atmospheric science, environmental engineering, chemistry, or a related field
-Strong background in aerosol science and atmospheric chemistry
-Experience with laboratory experiments (e.g., reactor or smog chamber studies) and aerosol instrumentation is highly desirable
-Proficiency in data analysis and programming (e.g., Python)
-Demonstrated ability to publish scientific research
*Application:
-Interested applicants should submit the following materials via email to Dr. Saehee Lim (saehee.lim at cnu.ac.kr):
-Curriculum vitae
-Publication list
-A brief statement of research interests
Names and contact information of 2–3 references
The position is available starting from Spring/Summer 2026 (negotiable depending on candidate availability).
