Job description

We are seeking 2 postdoctoral researchers with a PhD in marine geoscience or related fields. The postdocs will join a team of researchers led by Jie Chen, at School of Oceanography, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China (https://soo.sjtu.edu.cn/en/).

Duration: 2 years

Expected start date: 2026 or early 2027

Annual Salary: 240,000-320,000 RMB (30,000-40,000 EUR) before tax

Accommodation: Near-campus staff accommodation is available

Additional benefits: Access to supercomputing facilities, assistance with visa applications, research travel covered, and cruise opportunities to Indian, Arctic, and Antartic Oceans.

Research Topics will be developed based on mutual interests and may include mid-ocean ridges, transform faults, continental margins, submarine volcanism, and hydrothermal circulation. Possible projects include, but are not limited to:

  • AUV observations on submarine volcanic, tectonic, hydrothermal, and landslide processes
  • Marine geophysics (e.g., bathymetry, seismology, gravity, and magnetics)
  • Geodynamic modelling on magma dynamics, hydrothermal circulation, and thermal regime
  • Crustal accretion at ultraslow spreading ridges

Qualifications

  • PhD degree in marine geophysics, geodynamic modelling, or related fields
  • Experience in data analysis and scientific programming
  • Fluent scientific English

Responsibilities

  • At least one international peer-reviewed scientific publication
  • Participate in the development of research proposals and funded projects
  • Assist in the supervision of graduate students in the group
