Faculty Advertisement – Petroleum Geology
Stratigraphy, Sedimentology and Palaeontology (SSP)
Tectonics and Structural Geology (TS)
The Physical Science and Engineering Division at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) invites applications for a faculty position at any level (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) in the broad area of Petroleum Geology, with focus on petroleum-systems analysis, reservoir modeling including lithofacies and pore network analysis, and hydrocarbon-related exploration geophysics. The research should focus on Arabian petroleum systems. Advanced knowledge of Arabian geology and industry experience is desirable.
We are seeking candidates whose research addresses fundamental and applied aspects of conventional and unconventional petroleum systems and basin models. Areas of interest and future research include, but are not limited to:
- Basin analysis and petroleum system modeling, with focus on the Arabian Peninsula
- Reservoir characterization, facies modeling, petrophysics and rock physics for subsurface characterization
- Sequence stratigraphy, sedimentology, and source–reservoir–seal systems
- Structural geology and tectonic controls on hydrocarbon systems
- Analysis and integration into reservoir models of outcrop analogues
- Seismic interpretation, seismic inversion, and integration with well & outcrop data
- Geological uncertainty quantification and stochastic reservoir modeling
We welcome applicants who are advancing state-of-the-art research in petroleum geology, including basin and reservoir modeling, stochastic parameterizations, and integrated subsurface characterization frameworks. Experience in generating outcrop based data and integrating these into geological models with seismic, well, and production-related datasets is especially valued.
The successful candidate will be expected to establish an internationally recognized research program, collaborate across disciplines, and contribute to strategic national and regional climate initiatives. This role is particularly well-suited to researchers interested in translational research science that supports KAUST’s Strategic Mission in the field of Energy, spearheaded by the Division of Physical Sciences and Engineering (PSE).
The position offers access to geological outcrop terrains of unsurpassed quality, advanced imaging and modeling infrastructure, state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, a high-perfomance computing center, and collaborative partnerships across academia, government, and industry. It is aligned with major Saudi National priorities and KAUST’s Strategic Mission in the four sectors Energy – Food – Water – Health.
