Assistant Professor Of Geological Sciences

The Department of Earth Sciences of the Faculty of Chemical Sciences at the University of Concepción,
Chile, seeks to hire a full-time academic (44 hours) at the rank of Assistant Professor, with the following
requirements:
* Bachelor’s degree (Licenciatura) in Geological Sciences or professional title of Geologist (or equivalent).
* Doctoral degree (PhD) in Geological Sciences (or equivalent).
* Experience in university-level teaching in Geological Sciences, preferably in Economic Geology or
Engineering Geology.
* Experience in scientific research and the ability to lead and manage a research area at the national or
international level in Geological Sciences, preferably in Economic Geology or Engineering Geology.
Academic duties include undergraduate and graduate teaching in Geological Sciences, preferably in
Economic Geology or Engineering Geology. Applicants must be able to teach in Spanish immediately. If not
a native Spanish speaker, the applicant must certify proficiency in Spanish.
Research experience must be evidenced through participation in research projects and WoS-indexed
publications that make it possible to meet the productivity guidelines of the Chile’s National Accreditation
Commission (CNA) — Earth Sciences Area Committee, doctoral level criteria.
The selected candidate must join one of the existing research areas in the Department of Earth Sciences
or propose a new area of research. In both cases—particularly the latter—the feasibility of the research
will be an important aspect considered in the selection process.
The position is based in the city of Concepción, with availability required as of August, 3rd 2026.
