Research Associate (Predoctoral position), 75% TV-L E13, fixed-term for 36 months
In support of a DFG-funded doctoral research project, we are offering a research associate position to conduct chemical and isotopic studies of drill cores from the Oman Drilling Project. The successful candidate will test various hypotheses concerning the formation and evolution of rocks from lower crustal and upper mantle sections of the Oman ophiolite.
Your responsibilities will include sample selection, characterization and preparation; element separation in a clean laboratory environment; mass spectrometry with a focus on the Re-Os, Rb-Sr, Sm-Nd, and U-Th-Pb decay systems; data interpretation, presentations at national and international conferences and publication of results. You will also be expected to assist with laboratory organization and to support the training of student assistants and interns.
Applicants must hold an M.Sc. degree in geology, geosciences, or a related field.
Practical skills and hands-on experience in isotope geochemistry/geochemistry (clean lab work, TIMS, ICP-MS) are desirable. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are expected.
