Job description

The Faculty of Chemistry and Earth Sciences at Heidelberg University is seeking to fill a full professorship (W3) in “Mineralogy” (f/m/d) within the Institute of Earth Sciences (https://www.geow.uni-heidelberg.de/en).


Applicants should conduct research in the field of mineralogy or a closely related field and have a proven track record of internationally recognized scientific achievements. Applicants from a wide range of research areas of mineralogy will be considered, including igneous and metamorphic processes, high- and low-temperature geochemistry, geochronology, planetary sciences/cosmochemistry, and environmental mineralogy. A strong focus on instrumental analysis is required.


The professorship has responsibilities for teaching core courses in the existing curricula of the Bachelor and Master programs in Earth Sciences, including field-based courses. The position links research groups within the Institute of Geosciences and is expected to develop collaborations with researchers at other institutions at Heidelberg University. The establishment of an independent, predominantly third-party-funded research group and participation in university self-governance are expected.


Requirements for application are a completed university degree, a qualified doctorate, successful teaching experience, and (in accordance with § 47 Section 2 of the State Higher Education Act) a Habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship, or equivalent qualifications.
