Job description

Teaching Stream Assistant Professor in Mineral Exploration 3-year term appointment.

The Earth Sciences Department at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada is taking applications for a 3-year term appointment linked to Carleton’s new fully online asynchronous professional Masters program in Mineral Exploration and Resource Management. The Department seeks candidates able to teach postgraduate professional courses in the application of modern techniques in mineral exploration, resource estimation, mining, beneficiation and mine waste management and the planning and execution of mineral exploration programs. Applications will be reviewed starting July 15 2026. Start date is negotiable, as early as August 2026. The search will remain open until the position is filled.

Qualifications:

  • PhD (or other degree/s as applicable) in Earth Sciences or a related discipline. Candidates with exceptional relevant industry experience may also be considered.
  • Excellent experience in applying Earth Sciences to mineral exploration and resource management within the mineral resource industry.
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence and commitment to transferring practical and applied knowledge to early-career professionals.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for teaching professional graduate-level courses in mineral exploration and resource management.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in industry-standard software, including Leapfrog, Oasis Montaj, ioGAS, and GIS platforms.
  • Excellent ability to contribute to the academic and professional life of the program.
  • Willingness to relocate to the Ottawa area is required at the time of appointment.
