Job description

The Boundary-Layer Meteorology Group at Fudan University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in boundary-layer meteorology, turbulence, land–atmosphere interactions, and machine learning for Earth system modeling.

Research Focus

The group develops physically grounded and AI-enhanced modeling approaches to investigate:

  • Multiscale turbulence in the atmospheric boundary layer
  • Land-surface heterogeneity and mesoscale circulations
  • Climate responses to anthropogenic land modification
  • Machine learning for subgrid parameterization

Research integrates physical theory, high-resolution simulations (DNS, LES, cloud-resolving models), field observations, and advanced machine learning to improve prediction of extreme weather and climate impacts.

Applicants should hold (or expect to receive) a Ph.D. in atmospheric science, fluid mechanics, climate science, applied mathematics, physics, or a related field. Strong analytical and computational skills are required. Experience in turbulence theory, high-resolution modeling, climate modeling, or machine learning for physical systems is desirable.

Research Environment

Fudan University is one of China’s leading research universities. The Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences provides an active and collaborative research environment in atmospheric dynamics and climate science. The group has access to high-performance computing and data-intensive modeling. Shanghai offers a vibrant international research setting.

How to apply

Please send a CV, brief research statement, and contact information for 2–3 references to Dr. Yu Cheng (yu_cheng@fudan.edu.cn)

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until positions are filled.
