Job description

There is growing concern about the stability of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) under climate change. Much research has sought to constrain the near-field impacts (e.g. to Europe and the Arctic). However impacts to the Southern Hemisphere remain unclear.

We are seeking a PhD candidate to help inform the mechanisms of north-south signal transfer and climatic impacts of AMOC weakening to the Southern Hemisphere. Working in a team of oceanographers and atmospheric scientists, the candidate will undertake and analyse climate model experiments that simulate AMOC weakening. This position is fully funded (tuition fees and stipend) and supported by research funding that supports international collaboration, conference attendance, and publishing.

The ideal candidate will have a background in physical oceanography and be comfortable working with scientific programming methods (e.g. python) for analysis of large quantitative datasets.
